Ch ch ch changes!

Still very long TPL!

But due to some professional developments on my side, it’s time to hang up my spurs for a while.

The blog will stay up and I’ll retain control of the URL. The stock is so well known now that the original purpose seems quaint.

I’m thankful for all of the friends I’ve made over the years. More ups than downs! Hopefully you all made (and continue to make) lots of money.

Don’t hesitate to reach out via the contact page. Be well!

  3. is there an option where you could transfer admin control to another long time trusted user (which I’m sure you have plenty of idea of others on this site who fit that bill)? I feel like this site is important for information sharing for the long time TPL community. Ultimately your choice and you’ve done a great job of building a community and consensus on issues. Would hate to lose this medium.

  4. I agree with Johnny Jay. It would be great (if possible) to keep an active open thread for the foreseeable future. That said, it’s easy to make suggestions when the work falls on others, so I completely understand if it’s not feasible. Regardless, thanks for the commitment you have made to running the blog for this long; it’s much appreciated. Best wishes.

  6. I agree with those that think the blog should continue, at least until the full transition to the unrestrained Stahl/Oliver era. The updates and info provided here are a huge help to the existing long-focused shareholder.

    Any chance you can reconsider?

  7. It’s been an interesting journey [so far]! “Live Long and Prosper” as Spock would say [Grin].

I became aware of Texas Pacific Land because it was included in one of the submissions to the Groundhog Stock Picking contest on the Manifest Investing website in 2022. I have been contributing to a long running discussion thread there about TPL ever since.

There is also a very active presence wrt Texas Pacific Land on Seeking Alpha. Multiple Seeking Alpha analysts are covering the stock with a range of Opinions. I have found that by signing up for the free “Must Reads” newsletter I seem to have access to most articles behind the paywall, your experience may vary.

  8. This is a very bearish signal. $1,300 stop target ASAP.

P.S. I was serious about the LandBridge blog. Excited to see you start a new chapter over there 🙂

  9. Much appreciated amigo. I bought my first TPL share back in Spring 2018. It’s been a great ride. Plenty more fun and games to come I’m sure.

PS If you find yourself missing the all y’all drama of Texas oil patch scheming, check out Landman, the new series on Paramount + (which you access via Prime) starring Billy Bob Thornton as the sardonic fixer.

It’s basically Yellowstone with exploding rigs, steely-eyed fights about mineral rights, boardroom lawyer shout-downs, improbably hot women in literally every role – blonde ex-wife, blonde daughter, blonde barista – in a bikini no less – serving coffee at the Brews ‘n’ Babes drive-thru. The big city lawyer is a brunette with a brilliant legal mind, but still a smoke show, Even the supposedly well-worn barmaid at the seedy watering hole has the well-preserved thing down pat. Plus it has all the lingo we know so well — laterals, easements, WTI, etc.

    Hilarious.

  11. I’m curious about TPL price dropping after being added to the S&P 500. If I read correctly the S&P 500 index funds rebalance quarterly on the 3rd Friday of March, June ,September, December. That was from Investopedia https://www.investopedia.com/index-rebalancing-7972596

The stocks in the S&P 500 in general are added by Marketcap weighting. TPL is considered about the average marketcap size of stocks in the S&P 500. So I have no idea how much index funds will be purchasing TPL to add to their index funds for rebalancing. For all I know maybe they have already added which would be a little depressing for me in the short term.

So is it possible that some group is manipulating TPL price lower to buy cheaper for the index funds on December 20th. Just a wild guess on my part. Maybe its the whiskey talking.

Just trying to make sense of the price drop of a good company so quickly after being added to the S&P. For the long term I think TPL should do well. TPL is my largest holding by far its in my 401k plan in KSCOX and I have purchased it individually over the last 2 years.

Got into it by listening to Murray Stahl and the Horizon Kinetics group. Also Landbridge is my 2nd largest holding which is similiar to TPL.

Landbridge lockup period I think ends December 25th. So it will be interesting to see if the executives start selling shares for a profit before the end of the year. Looking for a good price drop to add more Landbridge.

Finally read somewhere that a person mentioned NGL and Kolibri Global Energy were other companies similiar to TPL, and Landbridge to keep an eye on for investment opportunities.

Also Waterbridge is supposed to IPO this year maybe May 2025 if I heard somewhere on a podcast correctly.

Any other stocks that are related to TPL and Landbridge that might be of interest to the group.

Be interested in anyone’s thoughts. Maybe I’m way off base with my thinking.

Sometimes just throwing an idea out there could get a constructive conversation starting for the group.
